Stoney Vineyard was establish in 1973 by George Park and was the first vineyard in the Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania. Peter Althaus and his wife Ruth Purchased the property in 1989 and set about making it into the iconic brand that it is today. The Stoney Vineyard Pinot differs from the first label Domaine A as its a little more approachable as a young wine, but with that said it will still improve in bottle for quite a few years yet. This wine is quite deep in colour which is typical of Peter's style but is perhaps more typically Pinot than the 2001 or the Domaine A. Lean cherry fruits with hints of spice all give way to European earthy undertones that only Peter seems to be able to produce in Tasmania. A real stunning wine with fine balance and elegant fruits characters.
